Ritual for creativity & inspiration...

A strong coffee and the drive to the flower market at 4am.

Ritual to rejuvenate...

A drive in the country with an overnight stay. I live in the thick of the city, which I love, but on a drive the moment the landscape changes from urban to rural my breathing changes.

Ritual with friends, family & loved ones...

A cup of tea and a tarot card reading. Most of my friends have children and the madness of it. They say my apartment feels like Paris (which I cultivate with a mustard velvet armchair and couch, dark wood furniture and bentwood chairs) so they come over for tea, sympathy and quiet. With certain friends we pull out ‘the cards’ and see what will be and call our selves wizards.

Ritual for productivity & organisation...

I keep my home and my studio almost monastically clean and organized. I produce better work in this kind of environment… as opposed to the romantic notion of the disordered, rambling artist studio. I suppose the ritual is the act of ordering things.

Ritual to create a sense of calm and order...

A bath, a face mask, a hair mask and clean sheets. There must always be order ¬ – in the draws and cupboards too. It’s starting to sound like I have a problem… I really do like things’ ‘just so’.
